Direct School Admission (DSA)
Direct School Admission-JC Exercise 2025
Nanyang Junior College invites students with outstanding talents/skills
to apply for Direct School Admission. Successful DSA-JC candidates will
gain admission to NYJC in 2026 for their JC education as long as they meet
the eligibility criteria set by MOE for the two-year Junior College Course
(based on their GCE ’O’ Level examination results).
Please note that successful DSA-JC candidates will NOT be allowed to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise. They will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE ‘O’ Level examination results. They are expected to honour the commitment to their DSA-JC school.
Application Procedures
1. All applicants are to submit their application herebetween 7 May 2025 and 13 Jul 2025 through the online DSA form. The college accepts only online application, hard copy of the registration form is not required.
2. Amendment to the application (if any) should be submitted to the college via the college email: nyjc@schools.gov.sg with the subject title ‘2025 DSA Application Amendment – name, partial NRIC/FIN’. Partial NRIC/FIN includes the last 3 numerical digits and alphabet of your NRIC/FIN (e.g. '567A' from full NRIC number of 'S1234567A').
3. If you are applying via more than one talent area, please submit a separate application form for each talent area.
4. Applicants who are not offered a place in Phase 1 need not apply for Phase 2 as applications received will be considered for both phases.
5. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide accurate and complete information. An applicant found with false declaration will be rejected immediately.
6. Applicants will be shortlisted for an
interview/trial/ audition based on the selection criteria of the applied
talent area. Please see the table below for the selection criteria.
They should be attending the interview that may include an audition or
trial component. They will be evaluated by a team that comprises of the
college’s key personnel, teacher(s)-in-charge (talent area) and where applicable,
the CCA instructor or coach.

Phase 1: 19 May to 05 Aug
Phase 2: 11 Aug – 3 Sept
7. For applicants to have adequate preparation time for the trial and/or interview, we strongly recommend that all applications be submitted well in advance of the official deadline. They may need to show their portfolio during the interview.
The portfolio may include:
· Relevant certifications and
records of achievement in zonal or national competitions related to the
area of talent/skill;
· Art portfolio (applicable
for students interested in pursuing Art Elective Programme)
8. We will inform the shortlisted applicants on the details of the interview/trial/audition and the documents required through email/whatsapp/sms.
9. The college will contact successful candidates by telephone and email.
10. All shortlisted applicants who have
participated in the trial/interview:
a) Phase 1 selection outcome will be released between 30 Jul and 12 Aug 2025;
b) Phase 2 selection outcome will be released between 26 Aug and 8 Sep 2025.

Language and Humanities |

Debate – English
|
Applicants should be official members of the English Debate club. Applicants who meet the following criteria may be shortlisted for a selection trial and interview: · Taken part in the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships or its equivalent (an inter-school debating competition). · Preferably held a leadership position in the CCA. · Preferably have had experience in two different speaking roles (e.g. 1st and 3rd speaker). Suitable applicants will be shortlisted for a selection trial and interview. |
Language Elective Programme - Chinese (CLEP)

Applicants should fulfil at least one of the following criteria: § Outstanding performance in Higher Chinese for major school exams (e.g. top performer or ‘A’ grade in Higher Chinese for Secondary 3 end-of-year exam) § A good Chinese Literature grade § Achievement in relevant national and/or international competitions Candidates will be required to submit a personal statement of not more than 500 Chinese characters in the application form. Suitable candidates would be shortlisted for an interview. |
Leadership and Uniformed Groups |

Applicants who meet one or all the following criteria may be shortlisted for an interview. • Held top two positions in leadership CCAs (e.g. Prefectorial Board / Student Council or equivalent) OR • Held top position in Uniformed Group CCAs • Demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and exemplary character through organizing activities and/or events at national, school, cohort or CCA level

Applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria may be shortlisted for auditions and interview. § Preferably at least 4 years of experience in relevant groups and/or participated in SYF Arts Presentation § Achievement in SYF Arts Presentation § Achievement in national and/or international music/dance competitions § Quality grade in a music exam for a specific instrument or in a dance exam § Key performer or leader of a school team Shortlisted students for Performing Arts CCAs would need to prepare an item and have their instrument(s) (if relevant) ready for the audition. For DSA through Dance, applicants will be shortlisted for auditions based on a one-minute video recording of their performance, accompanied by music. All applicants will receive email detailing the video submission process. |

The Science Research involvements may include one or more of the following: · Science Research and/or Science-related competitions at national and/or international level · Activities, courses or workshops that the applicant has participated in that are related to the learning of Science and/or Mathematics beyond the school curriculum · Computer coding skills and/or research skills that the student possesses, that are relevant for research projects Suitable candidates would be shortlisted for an interview. |

Applicants should describe three most significant involvements that would reflect their passion and competency in Mathematics and/or Science Olympiads. The involvements may include one or more of the following: · Achievement(s) in related national and/or international competitions · Activities, courses or workshops that the applicant has participated in that are related to the learning of Mathematics and/or Science beyond the school curriculum · Achievement(s) in Science and/or Mathematics Olympiads or National Olympiads of Informatics (NOI) · Competitive programming knowledge Suitable candidates would be shortlisted for an interview. |

Shortlisted students for Sports and Games CCAs should turn up for the trial in sports attire with their equipment (If relevant) and be ready to be tested in individual skills and/or games situation. |
